Presidents Update |

Jason with Archie Thompson of Melbourne Victory
FICA held its inaugural Annual General Meeting at the Ross Park Clubrooms on Sunday 21 March 2010.
I was delighted to accept the position of President and look forward to building on the fantastic platform left behind by Paul Lelliot and his board. The new board members are all displayed in the "Who's who in FICA" webpage on this website.
I have been involved in Football all of my life in some capacity. My father was a professional player in England, I played until my late teens and I have coached for the past 10 years. I now have 2 sons who I hope will follow in their grandfathers footsteps.
I am passionate about the "world game" and I hope I can use this passion to drive our local competition to another level.
Our winter competition will soon be upon us with a Round-Robin tournament taking place on 17 & 18 April 2010 with our regular season starting on 1 & 2 May 2010. No games will take place on Anzac Day.
Our Development Officer Mark Wakeling will be conducting junior training clinics for those junior players who wish to take their game to the next level and perhaps be considered for representative duties. These sessions are free of charge and are conducted weekly throughout the year except when Mark is interstate on holidays or undertaking his football duties. Watch this space for Mark's own webpage with a bit about his history and his diary so players know when he is available for training.
Throughout our winter Competition I encourage all coaches to contact Mark to have him conduct a coaching session for your team. He will come out to where ever you train and coach you and your team using the latest FFA coaching methods. Mark will need some notice to do this so please contact him directly.
Our referees Co-ordinator Kevin Tootell has been conducting referees clinics to ensure we have adequate referees to govern our games. We are currently reviewing the Rules of our game and will keep you posted of he rules changes when they become available. I hope that Kevin will also have his own webpage shortly where he can pass on some knowledge to players from a referees perspective.
I thank all the board members for giving up their time to take on a role as a FICA volunteer.
Finally, our Registration Clinic's have now concluded with a fantastic number of new and existing players registering. It is not too late to register but you will need to contact the Club you wish to play for directly to do this. Each club is represented by a board member who would be more than happy to assist you with your registration. To help you and your new club please print out and complete the Amateur Player Registration Form on the webpage "Rules & Forms".
Yours in Football
Jason Shereston

Presidents Report for the Winter 2008 and Summer 2009 Seasons |
|
|
In what has been a defining year for football in Central Australia the executive committee is pleased to report that we have achieved most of our 1st year objectives outlined in the 3 year strategy presented to NTG, FFNT, FFA and our sponsors :
INCORPORATION: With the formation of “Football in Central Australia” FICA inc. we are now better placed to develop programs which will give maximum benefit to our region for the effort we put in and allow us to deliver them with greater efficiency. To comply with FFA affiliation we remain under the FFNT umbrella for the time being, however the days of subsidising Darwin football are over.
DEVELOPMENT OFFICER: With effect Jan 2009 we have appointed a full time football development Officer for a period of 2 years. This will enable FICA continuity in delivery of programs and grow an outback football culture and unique style based on technique, speed and fair play.
THE CHARLIE PERKINS FOOTBALL ACADEMY: In Nov 2008 we launched The Charlie Perkins Football Academy. Endorsed by the Perkins family the Academy invites participation in a series of structured upskills development sessions with emphasis on leadership on and off the field. This will include the use of the proven public speaking concepts adopted by the Toastmaster organisation as well as FFA approved training drills. Players representing Alice Springs in FFA sanctioned competitions must enrol in this Academy.
FOOTBALL FOR WOMEN: “We’re In A League of Our Own”. With the support of Imparja FICA has introduced a dedicated competition for girls and women 15yrs and over. The winter league started with 6 teams and the current summer 7 v 7 night series has 7 teams. We are encouraged by FFA grow this segment and we envisage a greater uptake this year. A launch night attended by FFA ambassador Andy Harper and possibly a Matildas representative is being discussed.
OUTBACK STREET SOCCER: In the shadows of Anzac Hill we started our Street Soccer program for the kids in Alice Springs Town camps and homeless wandering the streets. Under the auspices of Tangentyere Council this initiative aims to engage young people and encourage socially acceptable behaviour and at the same time promoting a healthier lifestyle and an alternative to alcohol, drugs and petty crime. We are actively seeking support from a wide range of stakeholders to purchase a mobile facility so that we can take The World Game to The Outback and achieve measurable outcomes in the process.
