| Squad Jenny Janes (W)

Viking Jenny Jane's, up until Winter Comp 2009 included a combination of Mum's and Gym Instructors wanting to add a social sport to their repertoire along with a few netballers wanting to hold onto their fitness in the off season. This year we have been lucky enough to recruit six younger players from a disbanded 7aside Summer Team to mix into our brood.
We had very humble beginnings back in 2007 when there was first talk of a Women's Soccer Competition in Alice Springs for the 7a-side Summer Comp held on Tuesday nights. Two of us girls could not be squeezed into the Vikings Women's Team that had been put together, so being a little disappointed we girls had a beer with a few more friends. After a while we started to make a list of our own friends who we could talk into joining us and we would form our own team. The idea was born, the enthusiasm was strong and the only thing missing was anyone with any knowledge of how to actually play soccer.
So we searched for a coach and were lucky to have a man 'they call' Bruce, gamely put his hand up for the job. Over the last two years he has put up with more than most coaches could tolerate, taking us from the very basics of soccer and onwards at a very steady pace. Bruce juggles a variety of candid personalities and opinions of 19 women but we supply him with tears of laughter with our on field antics. Through it all he is a constant at our training and games and Jenny Jane's would not be who they are today without the support from this man.
Our other background support comes from the very lady our name represents. Jane Spears from Jenny Jane's Beauty and Skin Care took up sponsorship of our team right from the start. The girls enjoy "goodies"
throughout the season and of course we look after our coach.
On our very first game we were blessed with a ring in, whom none of us "friends" knew, but this girl could play soccer, and we couldn't believe our luck. That first game most of us had butterflies and were thinking we were crazy but we ran out on that field and we gave it a go. We went down score wise of course; game after game until mid season we finally started holding our own. Then we were on our way.
Over the last few seasons, summer and winter, we have had girls come and go as do all teams, although a core group from the original Jenny Jane's still exists, as does Bruce. We have a few more women who can actually play now, with prior knowledge of the rules of soccer and of course our young girls from "The Ogden’s". Together as a team for the winter 2009 Comp, we have a great mix of girls, all hoping to develop our skills enough to give the women's competition a little nudge. Like in the beginning, we go out, we give it a go.
Jenny Jane's are sporting new uniforms this season including shorts with logo's 'Jenny Jane's" and "Women in Football" on the backsides. So look out for those butts.................... They'll be running towards the goal.
